Somehow I've found myself on three kid-free vacations this year. They started with 6 days at the beginning of May. Cas earned a work incentive trip to the Breakers in West Palm Beach. That week coincided with teacher appreciation week, so not only did my mom single-handedly get the kids to school every day, she also had to pack our teacher's favorite treat and favorite flower. Lesa is a saint (especially after holding down the fort again for 12 days in July!!)
Anyway, off to Palm Beach we went, enjoying a week at the gorgeous "Great Gatsby-esque" hotel!
We arrived one day early, strolled down the promenade for breakfast by the beach, and then headed to the beach chairs!
Cas had to attend a few business sessions, but I spent that time by the pool or beach. Then for two of the afternoons, there were activities. Like a catamaran to snorkel -The next day we hit the spa and then hung out at the company cabana sipping pina coladas out of coconuts. It was blissful! In the evenings, there were dinners to attend. On the formal night, they had an amazing dj and we had a blast dancing like fools!
The last night was a rain-out, but they managed to transform a conference room into an outdoor beach party, complete with food trucks, games, photo booths, and cabanas.
We scored some loot for our kids at a crab race (hermit crabs racing - poor little guys!) and returned home to happy children!
A few weeks later, my parents and I went to visit my brother for a long weekend in Indy. We walked over 20 miles throughout the weekend, but consumed at least as many calories as we burned. We walked throughout downtown, along their canal walk and their trails, with the whole gang posing by the Indy sign -
On the river walk of Indy - it was a fun weekend with my nuclear family!
We stopped at the World War I monument. The first time we visited, we walked up the 80 stairs to find it closed. My stair-stepping, exercising-loving mom was the only one who enjoyed that detour!
But we all enjoyed the beautiful city of Indy, impressed with all the parks, gardens, and independent artist areas.
The next day after brunch with my brother, we walked 6 miles to Broad Ripple's art fair. It was a perfect day to walk around, enjoy some ice cream, and of course take some pictures.
On Sunday - as we had an hour to kill on the wait list at a popular brunch spot - we returned to the War Monument, found my great grandfather's name on the wall for veterans, and then visited their shrine room that blew us away with its beauty.
We walked around a little, then went to breakfast.
We strolled throughout White River State Park after stuffing ourselves sick at brunch with food so delicious none of us had the discipline to stop eating!
My parents, who will be celebrating their 40th anniversary soon!!
Before heading to the airport, we were able to catch most of a minor league baseball game. Beautiful sunny weather, Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy, minor league baseball with the family - great Sunday afternoon to wrap up a wonderful weekend in Indianapolis!
